Bandung – Directorate of Non-Regular Education held a public lecture for professional engineering program students on Thursday (22/09/22). The public lecture was given by experts, which equipped the students with experience and knowledge. The speaker for this public lecture was Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta Dirgantara, M.T., the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FMAE) and Ir. Pri Gustari Akbar, the chairman of the business incubation Non-Semen department of PT Semen Padang. 

Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta Dirgantara, M.T., presented the challenges and opportunities of the engineering profession in getting Indonesia out of the middle-income trap. In his explanation, Indonesia need to move from a productive economy based on natural resources to a productive economy based on human resources with technological and industrial innovation. The challenge engineers face nowadays is the ability to integrate the physical, digital, and political worlds by considering Indonesia’s geographical conditions, community needs, and available potential. Indonesia’s potential can be used as an opportunity to synergize for mutual progress.

He also highlighted that the nation’s development is greatly supported by science, technology, and innovation growth. In line with technological changes, Indonesia’s economy will also grow. Engineers should be able to play a significant role in the nation’s development. It is because human resources are an essential factor in the growth of science and technology.

The next presentation was by the Head of the Non-Cement Business Incubation Department of PT Semen Padang. Ir. Pri Gustari Akbar explained the nine engineer’s behavior and shared his engineering experience. He also explained the role of an engineer in engineering practice following the regulations; security, health, safety, work, and environment. At the end of his presentation, Ir. Pri emphasized that implementing an engineer’s ethical codes in every engineering practice is vital to becoming a competent and professional engineer.
