Bandung – The Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FMAE/FTMD) at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) received a visit from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at Meeting Room A, FTMD ITB Ganesha Campus. The visit aimed to explore potential academic collaborations, with a particular focus on developing double degree programs across various educational levels.
The UNIMAS delegation, led by Ir. Dr. Mah Yau Seng, was warmly welcomed by FTMD ITB faculty representatives, Ir. Satrio Wicaksono, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., and Arie Wibowo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D.
During the meeting, both parties discussed the potential for double degree collaborations at the Undergraduate, Master’s, and Doctoral levels. A key point of discussion was the implementation of a flexible doctoral program scheme. This includes study duration options such as the 1+2 or 2+1 schemes, which can be tailored according to the mutual agreement of both institutions.
Furthermore, FTMD ITB will conduct internal discussions to determine the primary focus of the double degree development, whether it will prioritize the undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral level. UNIMAS expressed its readiness to initiate this partnership, specifically in the fields of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, noting that they do not currently offer an aerospace engineering program.
This meeting marks the initial step in exploring academic collaboration between FTMD ITB and UNIMAS. It is expected to open broader opportunities for students from both institutions to access cross-border education and strengthen international networks within the engineering field.
Through this partnership, both FTMD ITB and UNIMAS aim to foster a more integrated regional academic environment, preparing students to compete on a global scale.
