Bandung – The Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FTMD) at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT PLN Puslitbang on Friday, March 15, 2024. The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta Dirgantara, Dean of FTMD ITB, and Mr. Mochammad Soleh, General Manager of PLN Research and Development Center. This collaboration encompasses research and development in electrical power technology and the construction of biomass power plants. 

 This partnership marks the beginning of a series of joint research and development projects between FTMD ITB and PT PLN Puslitbang. The primary focus is on developing new technologies in the electrical power sector, including the construction of biomass-based power plants. Through this collaboration, innovative solutions are expected to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of the energy sector in Indonesia. 

 PT PLN Puslitbang, as a service unit acting as PLN’s business think tank, focuses on research, technical studies, PLN standards, and innovation management within PLN. One of its main missions is to support the development of New and Renewable Energy (EBT) power plants, particularly in Nusa Penida, to sustain the rapidly growing tourism industry on the island. This mission includes the development of biomass-based power plants as part of the collaboration. 

 In his remarks, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta Dirgantara, Dean of FTMD ITB, emphasized that sustainability development has become a central focus of research activities at the institution. He highlighted that through this partnership, FTMD ITB can be part of the solution to global energy and environmental challenges. By focusing on renewable energy development, FTMD ITB aims to make a significant contribution to supporting the transition towards a more sustainable society.  

  Additionally, Ms. Ir. Teti Armiati Argo, M.E.S, Ph.D., from the Regional and Rural Planning Research Group, School of Architecture, Planning, and Policy Development (SAPPK ITB), also attended the MoU signing event. Her presence represents the strong multidisciplinary collaboration required for the success of this partnership, bringing her extensive knowledge and experience in sustainable development planning. Her expertise will add significant value to the project by integrating social aspects into every element of the initiative. 

 Thus, the signing of this MoU is expected to be the first step towards initiatives with substantial impacts on national progress, in line with ITB’s vision of being Globally Respected and Locally Relevant.
