Bandung- Students of the Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FMAE) are once again exploring the Indonesian industrial world in the program organized by Mechanical Engineering Student Association M-enjajah Industri,” which is supported by the FMAE alumni class of 1996. The work program is an industrial visit program aimed at getting to know more about the future work prospects of FMAE. At the end of the M-enjajah Industri series, FTMD ITB students visited the largest container terminal in Indonesia, PT Jakarta International Container Terminal, Tanjung Priok, on September 26, 2023.

The group of FTMD students who visited JICT was led by the Head of the Mechanical Engineering Student Association  Professional Department, Arkaan Rasyad Usman. Arriving at the JICT Office, the group of ITB students was warmly welcomed by Mr. Zaein Suprapto, Manager of Mobile Equipment at PT JICT, who is also an alumnus of the FTMD ITB Class of 1996. Before continuing the event, Mr. Zaein invited the group of FMAE students to take a short break and eat together.

After taking a break, the visit was opened by Ms. Herianita from JICT’s Corporate Affairs division to provide a presentation on JICT’s company profile and an introduction to the business processes within JICT. Through her explanation, JICT is the largest container terminal in Indonesia and has a total area of 100 ha, which is capable of handling two million TEUs. TEUs are twenty-foot equivalent units, a unit of cargo capacity. The material presentation at the JICT office ended with a question-and-answer session and a souvenir handover.

This industrial visit would not be complete if it did not invite FTMD students to see the processes that occur at JICT. The group of students then wore vests and safety helmets and were then invited to a tour by Mr. Zaein using the JICT visitor bus. The group was then directed to the dockside to witness the loading and unloading of containers. Before continuing to the next location, students also took selfies and photos with Mr. Zaein and other staff.

The visit continued to see the activity process at the JICT Workshop, where they maintain vehicles and special forklifts to transport containers. After all the visits were completed, the group had lunch together at the JICT canteen. After the entire series of visits was completed, after lunch together, Mr. Zaein created an unforgettable moment by bringing durian to eat with the students.

This series of M-Colonizing the Industry has provided an understanding and experience of the industrial world for FTMD students. With the support of 1996 alumni, the students get a golden opportunity that is priceless to build a career in the future. Hopefully, through this M-enjajah Industri program, students will have a strong foundation for achieving success in the future.
