Bandung – The Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FTMD) at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) received a visit from the Feasibility Service of the Indonesian Army (Dinas Kelaikan TNI Angkatan Darat/Dislaikad TNI AD) on Wednesday (July 22, 2026) at the FTMD ITB Meeting Room. This meeting serves as an initial step in exploring collaboration opportunities in standardization, certification, technical training, and defense technology development.

The meeting was chaired by Prof. Dr. Ir. Hermawan Judawisastra, M.Eng. as the Dean of FTMD ITB and attended by Ir. Rianto Adhy Sasongko, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D.; Abdul Hakim Masyhur, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D.; Dr. Ir. Riza Wirawan, M.T.; Dr. Taufiq Mulyanto, S.T.; Dr.-Ing. Ir. Javensius Sembiring, S.T., M.T.; and Ditho Ardiansyah Pulungan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D. Meanwhile, the Dislaikad delegation was led by Brig. Gen. Fifin Firmansyah, S.E., M.M. as Head of the Army Feasibility Service, alongside Dislaikad officials.

During the meeting, Dislaikad conveyed the need for academic support and expertise in the standardization and operational feasibility assessment of various equipment and primary defense weapon systems (alat utama sistem persenjataan/alutsista). FTMD ITB is considered to have the potential to contribute as a partner through the provision of experts, technical training support, and assistance in evaluation and certification processes in accordance with applicable regulations.

In addition to discussing opportunities for training and certification development, both parties deliberated on potential collaboration in research, particularly regarding condition evaluation, reliability, and service life of defense equipment. This topic is seen as having strong prospects to be developed into joint research while supporting human resource development through undergraduate final projects, master’s theses, and doctoral dissertations.

FTMD ITB also shared the faculty’s experience in various technological developments, including in the defense sector. These competencies are expected to serve as a foundation for developing cooperation that makes a tangible contribution to enhancing the quality of technology and national defense support systems.

As a follow-up, FTMD ITB and Dislaikad TNI AD agreed to continue discussions regarding technical requirements, scope of cooperation, and the drafting of an implementation roadmap. This exploratory phase is expected to mark the beginning of a collaboration capable of integrating FTMD ITB’s academic excellence with the strategic needs of the national defense sector through education, research, and community service.
