FTMD ITB and IIT Bombay Discuss Development of Dual Degree Program and Research Collaboration
BANDUNG, ftmd.itb.ac.id – The Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FTMD) Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) received a delegation from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) on Monday (August 31, 2026) at the Seminar Room, 2nd Floor, Labtek II, ITB Ganesha Campus.
This visit serves as a follow-up to ongoing discussions between ITB and IIT Bombay regarding the development of the 3+2 Dual Degree Program (3+2 Dual Degree Programme/DDP) and opportunities to strengthen academic and research collaboration.
The meeting was attended by the leadership and representatives of FTMD ITB, including Prof. Dr. Ir. Hermawan Judawisastra, M.Eng., Dean of FTMD; Ir. Rianto Adhy Sasongko, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Resources; Ir. Satrio Wicaksono, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., Head of the Undergraduate and Master’s Study Programs in Mechanical Engineering; Dr. Annisa Jusuf, S.T., M.T., Head of the Undergraduate and Master’s Study Programs in Aerospace Engineering; Dr. Ir. Riza Wirawan, M.T., Head of the Undergraduate and Master’s Study Programs in Materials Science and Engineering; Arie Wibowo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., Head of the Doctoral Study Programs in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Materials Science and Engineering; Dr. -Ing. Ir. Javensius Sembiring, S.T, M.T.; and Dr.Eng. Gea Fardias Mu’min, S.T., M.T., Partnership Coordinator.
The IIT Bombay delegation comprised Prof. Pratibha Sharma, Associate Dean (Academics); Prof. Prasanna Gandhi, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering; Prof. Amit Agrawal and Prof. Amber Shrivastava from the Department of Mechanical Engineering; Prof. Ajay Singh Panwar, Head of the Department of Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science; Prof. Ashwini Yella from the same department; as well as Prof. Aniruddha Sinha and Prof. Vineeth Vinod Nair from the Department of Aerospace Engineering. The delegation was also accompanied by Prasanna Sumant Hate, Acting Assistant Registrar, Academic Section, and Vikash Mishra, Administrative Superintendent, Office of Dean (International Relations).
Discussing the Dual Degree Program and Academic Mobility
The event commenced with welcoming remarks from the Dean of FTMD ITB, followed by an introduction to IIT Bombay and a presentation on collaboration opportunities. After a screening of the FTMD profile video, the agenda proceeded with breakout discussions with each study program.
Key discussions focused on the development of the 3+2 Dual Degree Program and student mobility opportunities in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Materials Engineering. Both institutions also discussed the potential for faculty and academic staff mobility, academic exchanges, and international curriculum development
The discussions with individual study programs provided a platform to identify forms of collaboration tailored to the scientific disciplines and academic needs of both institutions.
Exploring Research Collaboration
In addition to educational cooperation, the meeting included a discussion session on joint research opportunities. This session involved Ir. Pramudita Satria Palar, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., Dr. Adrian Rizqi Irhamna, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., Dr.Eng. Achmad Rofi Irsyad, S.T., M.Eng., Ir. Vani Virdyawan, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., and Arya Dipajaya Nugraha, S.T., M.T.
Discussions focused on opportunities for developing joint research initiatives and research collaborations aimed at strengthening the academic relationship between FTMD ITB and IIT Bombay.
IIT Bombay is one of India’s premier higher education and research institutions, boasting fields of study aligned with FTMD, including Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science. ITB and IIT Bombay have previously collaborated on student exchanges as well as staff development and exchange programs.
Through this visit, FTMD ITB and IIT Bombay seek to expand their existing partnership through the development of dual degree programs, academic mobility, and joint research. This collaboration is expected to strengthen the internationalization of FTMD ITB’s education while offering broader opportunities for students and academic community members to build international experience and academic networks.
