FMAE is implementing the semester credit unit system or sistem satuan kredit semester (abbreviated as SKS) for its general education system. The system is arranged to be held not only inside the classroom, as each credit also represents lab activity and independent study session. There are 144 compulsory credits for undergraduate program students expected to complete in four academic years. A thesis based on a research group interest is also required as a final project.
As for the postgraduate degree program, students are expected to take 36 credits in two academic years. Quite similar to the undergraduate program, students are required to conduct a research and submit a thesis/dissertation. In addition to this, they are also encouraged to publish journals in order to be engaged in a wider learning community. The study term can be shortened by pursuing the Fast-Track Program which offers the opportunity to achieve both Bachelor and Master’s degree in only five academic years.
