Bandung – The career paths of alumni of the Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FMAE) ITB continue to expand, one of them is Prof Hendra Hermawan, a Materials Engineering 1994 alumni , who has since established his career in Canada. His exceptional achievements have earned him a significant and influential position as an Associate Professor at Université Laval in Canada. This courageous move makes Prof. Hendra’s journey an inspiration for individuals who dare to pursue their dreams across geographical boundaries.

On Thursday (10/08/23), Prof Hendra visited FMAE ITB to share his knowledge and experiences related to his career in education. The event was held offline in the Seminar Room, Lab Tek II, and was attended by students. Before the event started, Prof. Hendra also had the opportunity to tour the FMAE campus and reminisce about his college days.

Prof Hendra Hermawan’s motivation to continue his studies and settle in Canada comes from an inspiring story. In his story, it all started with his curiosity about opportunities and offers from various international universities for further studies. However, with tremendous determination and dedication, after he tried to apply, went through several selections, and was then accepted to continue his studies in Canada, which finally led to a monumental step in his career.

In his sharing, he shared several tips on funding studies in Canada with the students in attendance. He suggested looking for research grant scholarships, considering that full scholarships that cover the entire cost of study in Canada are quite rare.

Additionally, he also provided some valuable tips and guidance on writing an effective resume or CV. He emphasized the importance of highlighting valuable experiences, such as community service, as an added value in a curriculum vitae.

However, the key to success does not stop there. Prof Hendra Hermawan also shared valuable tips on how to send emails to professors for study or research. He suggested that the message should be relevant and clear, and highlight relevant academic interests and backgrounds.

Furthermore, Prof Hendra Hermawan pointed out that having the ability to speak French is a significant plus. He emphasized that the ability to communicate in Canada’s native language can open up more opportunities and expand professional networks in the country.
