ITB for the Nation; Technology Expertise in Corruption Eradication
To introduce and strengthen the anti-corruption movement within the university setting, the Directorate of Education at ITB organized an event titled “Anti-Corruption Education Workshop” in collaboration with the Corruption Eradication Commission (Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi) at the Auditorium of the East Campus Center, ITB, on May 8–9, 2023. This event was spearheaded by ITB faculty members actively engaged in anti-corruption.
During the event, Dr. Ir. Toto Hardianto, a lecturer and researcher from the Energy Conversion Research Group, explained that FTMD (Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering) has a reputable track record as an independent expert team to assist legal institutions such as the Corruption Eradication Commission (Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi), the Attorney General’s Office, the High Prosecutor’s Office, and the Indonesian National Police in combating corruption cases.
The faculty members and researchers of the Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FTMD) have leveraged their expertise in science and technology to combat corruption in Indonesia. Their specialized knowledge has become a competency in the fight against corruption, including expertise in reconstruction proof, calculation of production costs (Harga Pokok Produksi), specification judgment in procurement of goods, and other related areas.
The competencies in science and knowledge possessed by FTMD’s faculty members and researchers represent a form of trust bestowed by the Corruption Eradication Commission (Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi), designating them as an independent expert team to handle corruption cases. Some of the cases they have been involved in include:
- The nationwide firefighting equipment procurement for the years 2003–2005 was addressed in 2007–2008.
- The modernization of the Banda Aceh city fire department in 2014 was handled in 2016.
- The nationwide implementation of the driving simulator for driver’s license testing in 2011 was managed in 2012.
- The procurement of Bus Rapid Transit (Busway) Packages I and II for Jakarta Province in 2012 was addressed in 2014.
- The corruption case involving the Quay Container Crane at PT. Pelindo II in 2010 was handled during the period of 2017–2021.
- The Avtur pipeline installation from the Makassar Fuel Depot to the Hasanuddin Airport Fuel Supply System in 2016 was addressed in 2022.
- These cases represent just a few examples of numerous corruption cases that have been successfully handled with the expertise of FTMD faculty members and, more broadly, ITB faculty members.
“Such trust is an honor that must be upheld and not squandered,” emphasized Dr. Ir. Toto Hardianto in response to requests from the Corruption Eradication Commission (Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi) and other law enforcement agencies regarding the involvement of FTMD as an independent expert team in handling corruption cases.
