Bandung – August 2, 2024, the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) conducted a benchmarking visit to the Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Institut Teknologi Bandung (FTMD ITB). This visit represents one of UGM’s strategic steps to enhance the quality of technical higher education administration in Indonesia.

The annual benchmarking program has several primary objectives. Besides self-development for the educational staff, the event also aims to strengthen the relationships between the founders of UGM’s mechanical engineering department and their colleagues at FTMD ITB. The UGM delegation comprised 44 members, including 15 academics, 11 laboratory technicians, 14 finance, HR, and IT staff, and 5 security personnel.

The UGM delegation was warmly welcomed by FTMD ITB’s academic and administrative staff. The meeting was opened by Yanti Nurhayanti, S.E., Head of Administration at FTMD ITB, who presented one of the management of administration such as general affairs and the preparation of the annual work plan and budget (RKAT ITB). Dr. Agung Wibowo, Head of the Laboratory and Facilities Manager at FTMD, provided a more comprehensive explanation of FTMD ITB’s governance.

This visit is part of the self-development program for educational staff and aims to strengthen the relationships between the founders and managers of mechanical engineering at these two prestigious institutions.

FTMD ITB also explained how they leverage technological advancements to support various aspects of operations, academics, and research. The implementation of this technology has proven to increase efficiency, accuracy, and the quality of services within the campus environment. Some of the systems introduced include SIPELAJAR, a system for scheduling lectures and room reservations. Then, SIX (Academic Information System), which manages students’ academic data online using data computing technology and system integration. There is also e-Office, a digital document management application for more efficient administrative processes. Additionally, MYPPM (Research and Community Service Information System), a system that supports the management of research and community service information.

A two-way discussion between UGM and FTMD ITB also covered other important topics, such as managing students’ mental health, handling assistantships, and career paths for educational staff. This discussion is expected to provide new insights and solutions to improve performance at both institutions.

With its flagship programs and the utilization of cutting-edge technology, FTMD ITB continues to demonstrate its excellence as one of the best engineering faculties in Indonesia. Such collaborations not only enhance the quality of technical higher education in Indonesia but also strengthen FTMD ITB’s position as a center of excellence in engineering.

This initiative is tangible proof of FTMD ITB’s commitment to advancing technical education in Indonesia and strengthening synergy with other institutions for a better future.
