Getting to Know FTMD More Closely through Open House ITB 2023
Selecting a university often triggers numerous questions in the minds of high school students aspiring to pursue higher education. The questions typically revolve around being “confused about choosing a major” or even “confused about choosing a campus.” The decision regarding both the campus and the major is a critical aspect that requires careful consideration. The selected campus can either serve as a comfortable haven for personal growth or conversely become an isolating environment if it doesn’t align with the chosen path.
In response to the concerns of prospective students in Indonesia, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) organized “Open House ITB 2023.” The chosen theme for this event was “Sustainability.” This theme reflects ITB’s commitment to participating in efforts to preserve the Earth’s natural resources and diversity. The goal is to maintain their quality for the benefit of current generations and safeguard these resources for future generations. Open House ITB 2023 occurred from December 1 to 3, 2023, at Sabuga ITB and was open to the public.
On December 1st, the ITB Open House featured exhibitions from all faculties/schools within ITB, along with explanations about the undergraduate admission system, details about faculties/schools, and workshops and seminars on ITB Undergraduate Admissions. However, in a departure from the previous year, ITB also offered prospective students an opportunity to explore educational facilities at the ITB Ganesha Campus. This Campus Exploration activity took place on December 2-3.
The Open House ITB 2023 was a highlight featuring a series of engaging events. The primary focus was on providing information about New Student Admission for the year 2024, covering both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Each faculty/school/study program in ITB presented informative sessions to introduce themselves to the audience. The Gelar Karya exhibition showcased the creativity and achievements of ITB students, offering a comprehensive overview. LokaKarya, a student-organized workshop, aimed to familiarize participants with campus life and the activities of each faculty. Gelar Wicara by ITB lecturers provided in-depth insights to the audience. Notably, this year, the audience had the opportunity to Explore Campus by selecting a theme and campus location based on their interests. Furthermore, Open House ITB facilitated consultation sessions for audiences and participants seeking more information about ITB.
In its execution, all faculties/schools/study programs actively participated in and contributed to the vibrant atmosphere of the ITB 2023 Open House, including the Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FMAE). During the Gelar Karya exhibition, FMAE showcased the achievements of its students, many of whom have garnered recognition in prestigious national competitions and secured patents. FTMD presented outstanding projects such as Multi Axis False Legs, an Electric Go-Kart supported by RCKT ITB, environmentally friendly vehicles utilizing renewable energy from Rakata ITB, UAV prototypes supported by Aksantara ITB, Shoes crafted from Mask Waste, Drone Propellers made from Hemp Fiber, Soft Robotics, and various other works highlighting the innovations and accomplishments of FTMD students in the fields of mechanical engineering, material engineering, and aerospace engineering.
In addition to Gelar Karya, FTMD hosted workshops or LokaKarya under the theme “One Day with FTMD” on December 2. This series of activities was facilitated by the Student Association, including the Mechanical Student Association (HMM) and the Aviation Engineering Student Family (KMPN). During “One Day with FTMD,” high school students had the opportunity to simulate the use of various tools within FTMD, including the Flight Simulator. The event also introduced high school students to campus life, particularly within FMAE. FTMD students shared insights into various activities, and the POV session featured student representatives from the Mechanical Engineering Student Association (HMM), Aviation Engineering Student Union (KMPN), and Material Engineering Student Union (MTM).
