Bandung – Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) held its 67th Dies Natalis Commemoration Ceremony on Monday, March 2, 2026, at the West Hall of ITB’s Ganesha Campus.
Rector of ITB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta Dirgantara, M.T., in his speech emphasized that the achievement of ITB towards the target of ranking 150th World University in 2030 cannot be separated from the quality of academic people who continue to contribute significantly to society, the nation, and global civilization.
“Through cross-disciplinary collaboration, governance strengthening, and expanding international networks, ITB is directed to continue to present solutions to national challenges in the fields of industry, energy, and health,” said Prof. Tata.
On this occasion, there was also a scientific oration from the Director of Research and Innovation of ITB, as well as a Professor from the Expertise Group (KK) of Pharmaceutical Biology of the School of Pharmacy (SF) ITB, Prof. Dr. apt. Elfahmi, S.Si., M.Si. He brought the topic “Downstreamization and Commercialization of Research and Innovation of Indonesian Natural Materials for Health Independence“.
In his oration, Prof. Elfahmi emphasized the great potential of Indonesia’s biodiversity as a source of raw materials for medicines and health products based on natural ingredients that need to be optimized through a structured downstream process, starting from research to the development of ready-to-be-distributed products. He emphasized that research should not stop at publications or patents but must be realized into a product that is beneficial to the community through the collaboration of the campus, industry, government, and regulators. According to him, strengthening domestic research and production is a strategic step towards national health independence and sovereignty.
This commemoration ceremony was also attended by leaders and members of the Board of Trustees (MWA), Academic Senate (SA), Professor Forum, faculty and school leaders, academic community, partners, and various stakeholders. The Chairman of MWA ITB, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, emphasized the importance of adaptive and accountable governance as well as synergy between the campus, the government, and the business world to strengthen the innovation ecosystem and encourage the downstream of competitive research. Meanwhile, the Chairman of the ITB Academic Senate, Prof. Edy Tri Baskoro, emphasized that institutional transformation must remain based on academic quality, scientific freedom, and integrity in order to maintain the quality and relevance of ITB’s contribution to national development.
In addition, the commemoration ceremony was also filled with a procession to award the lecturers as a form of appreciation for their dedication and contributions. The award covers various fields. This momentum is a form of respect for the commitment and consistency of the lecturers in strengthening the academic quality and reputation of the institution.
