FTMD 2022 Students Work Together in Action, Bringing Greater Impact to the Community’s Social Field
Bandung – Rembaka Wiyata, a familiar nickname, is the name for a series of actions carried out by the students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics (FTMD) batch 2022. Rembaka means to grow and Wiyata means to educate in education. Thus, the meaning of Rembaka Wiyata is to move in the field of education. Naturally, the name for this batch action is in line with their goal of equalizing education.
The batch actions they carry out together are divided into three fields, namely social politics, works and innovations, and social society. The purpose of carrying out this batch action is as a platform to get to know each other and strengthen the solidarity among batch 2022 students. In addition, this batch action is also intended as an implementation of the social function of students, which is to give a positive influence and impact on the surrounding environment.
For the Social Society field, there are three events that have been carried out smoothly.
Blood donation with the tagline “Every Drop for A Life” was successfully carried out on September 8, 2022, located on the 2nd floor of Salman ITB. The meaning of the tagline is that blood donation is one of the activities that provides many benefits not only to oneself, but also to all those in need. Regular blood donation has also been proven to provide benefits and to be healthy for the donor. In line with the meaning of rembaka wiyata, blood donation provides education through the example of an attitude that can be useful for many people and also oneself. The result of this charity event certainly reached the success parameters that had been set beforehand. There were 95 participants from the initial target of 75 participants. Although only 63 blood bags were collected due to health screenings, the important point is that the awareness and effort to donate blood has grown. In its implementation, FTMD 22 students worked together with Salman ITB Mosque and ITB Happy Volunteer Corps.
The next social activity of the community is a visit to SDN 085 Ciumbuleuit. Approximately 4 km from ITB Ganesha campus, students of FTMD class of 2022 flocked to the school. Their arrival was greeted with enthusiasm by the students, who sang a chant created by the students. There, they gave instructions to students from grades 1 to 6 on the efficient use of devices in learning. This was aimed at preventing the students from getting lost in the use of devices, given that since the pandemic spread, the use of devices has been widely used as a means of remote learning. In addition, they also gave two book shelves. The donation of the book shelves is a response to the students’ concerns about the small size of the class but many books scattered everywhere. It is also hoped that the donation of book shelves will provide a comfortable atmosphere and increase the students’ interest in reading at SDN 085 Ciumbuleuit.
The next action by the class was a charity activity. In this charity event, the students collected donations in the form of wearable clothing and used books. The donation event took place for 3 days. The results exceeded their expectations. More than three cartons of clothes and books were collected from the donation event. To make it easier to distribute, the students partnered with a third party, Sikas, a non-profit charity organization. Through Sikas, the clothes and books collected will be sorted first and distributed to remote areas in Bandung and surrounding areas.
