Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) has conducted the student orientation activities (PMB) for Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Professional Programs in the Academic Year 2023-2024. The event took place at two locations, at ITB Jatinangor Campus for the undergraduate program and the Sabuga Building ITB for the postgraduate and professional programs, on Monday, August 15, 2023.

The student orientation activities for undergraduate students this year were centralized at the ITB Jatinangor Campus. This decision was made due to the academic year 2023-2024, where all activities related to the First Common Year (Tahap Persiapan Bersama, or TPB) for new students will be carried out at the ITB Jatinangor Campus.

As part of the PMB series, the Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FTMD)  ITB also organized a faculty-level meeting with new students and their parents or guardians. The event was conducted in a hybrid format, allowing parents and guardians to attend either in person or virtually. With great enthusiasm, all new students for the academic year 2023-2024 attended the event in person, filling the auditorium GKU 1 at ITB Jatinangor.

“Selamat datang Soekarno dan Habibie muda di Kampus Perjuangan,” was the welcoming speech of the Dean of FTMD.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta, Dean of FTMD, warmly addressed the new students who have just embarked on their academic journey within the FTMD ITB community. In his address, he urged the students to make the most of this opportunity and actively participate in various academic and non-academic activities offered by FTMD.

“Use these moments, up to the next four years, to develop yourselves so that you reach the right point,” emphasized Prof. Tatacipta.

The event also featured the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, who explained various academic activities that will be part of the students’ learning experience at FTMD. Diverse and intriguing courses, innovative research projects, as well as internship opportunities and collaborations with industries, were some aspects elaborated upon by the Vice Dean. All of these endeavors aim to provide comprehensive preparation for students to face the real world upon graduation.

Dr. Ir. Lavi Rizki Zuhal, the  Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, highlighted the new opportunities for FTMD students regarding the Integrated Bachelor-Master Program / fast-track (Program Integrasi Sarjana Magister, or PISM). Through this opportunity, students can complete both undergraduate and master’s degrees in just five years. Not only does this save time and costs, but the program also helps students become more prepared as graduates who are more competitive and adaptive.

He also provided a set of successful academic tips for students and discussed potential reasons for academic challenges and failures.

Academic advisors, the faculty members responsible for guiding students, were also present at the event, warmly welcoming the new students. The presence of these academic  advisors will play a crucial role in supporting the development of students throughout their studies at FTMD.

With enthusiasm and optimism, the welcoming event for new students became a special moment that exemplified a sense of camaraderie, dedication to knowledge, and comprehensive preparation for the students’ future. It is hoped that every step taken at FTMD ITB will serve as a strong foundation for achieving excellence and success in their future careers.
