Bandung — The Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FTMD) Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) recently welcomed a visit from the delegation of the Centre for Advanced Composite Materials (CACM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). The visit was led by Prof. Dr. Yazid bin Yahya, accompanied by six other researchers who are also academic staff at UTM.

CACM UTM is recognized as a Center of Excellence at UTM, offering laboratory services, training, and consultations in mechanics, polymer science, and manufacturing. With its advanced facilities, CACM UTM plays a crucial role in facilitating research and development of composite and biomedical materials in Malaysia.

The UTM delegation was warmly received by Dr. Hermawan Judawisastra, accompanied by other FTMD academic staff, including Dr. Ditho Pulungan and Mrs. Lia Amelia, Ph.D. The meeting began with presentations on the profiles of both institutions and their research tracks, paving the way for in-depth discussions on potential collaboration opportunities.

This visit’s purpose was to strengthen the partnership between FTMD ITB and CACM UTM and to explore new opportunities in composite material research. “We hope this visit will be mutually beneficial in enhancing research and innovation in this field,” said Dr. Hermawan Judawisastra.

The meeting was not only attended by the two institutions but also attracted the attention of delegations from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and Universitas Andalas (UNAND). The BRIN delegation, who were also present, expressed their interest in establishing research collaborations in the fields of material computation and artificial intelligence in Material Engineering.

In the productive discussion, FTMD ITB, through Dr. Hermawan Judawisastra, expressed readiness to establish joint research collaborations with UTM, particularly in the field of composite materials. This initiative is expected to pave the way for various mutually beneficial forms of collaboration in the future.

Follow-up meetings are planned to further discuss the types of collaborations that can be implemented, in line with joint efforts to strengthen innovation and research progress in the field of composite materials.

With this international collaboration, FTMD ITB demonstrates its commitment to advancing research in material engineering, supporting Indonesia as one of the key players in composite material research in Southeast Asia.
