FTMD ITB Welcomes Shanghai MicroPort MedBot, Discussing Medical Robotics Research Development
Bandung – The Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FTMD) at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) received a visit from Shanghai MicroPort MedBot (Group) Co., Ltd. on Wednesday (July 29, 2026) to discuss research and innovation development opportunities in medical robotics. This visit was part of a series of collaborative efforts between ITB and Shanghai MicroPort MedBot to advance health technology and medical robotics in Indonesia.
The delegation from Shanghai MicroPort MedBot—comprising Chao He (Alex) as Founder and CEO of Shanghai MicroPort MedBot; Ping Wang (Sean) as Overseas Sales Director, Asia Pacific; Anditya Rahardianto as Director of PT Medbot Teknologi Indonesia; and Qi Tan (Grant) as Overseas Sales Manager—was received by Ir. Rianto Adhy Sasongko, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D. as Vice Dean for Resources at FTMD ITB, alongside Ir. Indrawanto, M.Eng., Ph.D., and Ir. Vani Virdyawan, S.T., M.T., Ph.D.
During the visit, the MedBot delegation toured the facilities and observed the progress of FTMD ITB’s Medical Robotics Laboratory. The laboratory is currently being developed as part of FTMD’s efforts to strengthen education, research, and technological development capabilities in medical robotics.
The visit also served as an opportunity to present FTMD ITB’s potential and capacity in robotics technology. The meeting opened discussions regarding joint research development opportunities and the application of robotics technology to support future healthcare needs.
This event took place in conjunction with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ITB and Shanghai MicroPort MedBot (Group) Co., Ltd., held on the same day in Rapim A Room, ITB Rectorate Building. The MoU serves as a foundation for both institutions to foster cooperation in joint research, technology development, and human resource capacity building in medical robotics.
During the signing ceremony, ITB was represented by Prof. Ir. Lavi Rizki Zuhal, Ph.D. as Vice Rector for Research and Innovation, alongside related leadership. On behalf of Shanghai MicroPort MedBot, the MoU was signed by Chao He (Alex) as Founder and CEO.
This partnership represents a strategic milestone for MedBot, marking the company’s first collaboration with a university outside China. The scope of cooperation includes opportunities for joint research programs, including the initiation of a research center to support health science and technology development at ITB.
For FTMD ITB, this collaboration reinforces steps toward medical robotics development as a technological field bridging engineering sciences with healthcare needs. The development of the Medical Robotics Laboratory and partnership networks with various stakeholders are expected to serve as a hub for research and innovation.
The collaboration with Shanghai MicroPort MedBot is also expected to create broader opportunities for FTMD ITB in advancing medical robotics technology through synergies among education, research, industry, and human resource development. Furthermore, this initiative strengthens FTMD ITB’s contribution to supporting the health technology and medical robotics ecosystem in Indonesia.
