FTMD ITB Welcomes 454 New Undergraduate Students for the 2026/2027 Academic Year
Bandung – The Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FTMD) at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) welcomed 454 new undergraduate students for the 2026/2027 Academic Year on Wednesday (August 5, 2026). Prior to attending faculty-level activities, all new students participated in the Open Senate Session for the Admission of New Students for the First Semester of the 2026/2027 Academic Year hosted by ITB at Sasana Budaya Ganesa (Sabuga).
In his welcoming remarks, ITB Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta Dirgantara, M.T. encouraged all new students to view their university years as the beginning of a journey to develop intellectual abilities, build character, and create impactful works for society. He emphasized that being accepted into ITB is not the end of their struggle, but rather the starting point for making a tangible contribution to the nation and the world.
In addition to welcoming incoming students, the Open Senate Session for ITB New Student Admission featured an award presentation recognizing high-achieving students. On this occasion, two FTMD ITB students from the Mechanical Engineering Study Program (Class of 2025), Kevancea Ikea Djunaedi and Daffa Virwandy, received ITB Outstanding Student awards. Their achievements are expected to inspire new students to continuously develop both their academic and non-academic potential throughout their studies at ITB.
For the 2026/2027 Academic Year, ITB admitted 8,945 new students, consisting of 5,468 undergraduate students, 1,947 master’s students, 563 doctoral students, and 967 professional program students. Out of this total, FTMD ITB accepted 454 new undergraduate students from a pool of 11,578 applicants, yielding an acceptance selectivity rate of approximately 3.7%.
Following the institute-wide welcome ceremony, new FTMD track students proceeded to the faculty orientation at the Octagon Building, divided across three rooms. The sessions were hosted by FTMD lecturers, namely Nada Fauziyyah Nursadida, S.T., M.T. for the regular class in Room 9019; Dr. Adrian Rizqi Irhamna, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. for the international class in Room 9020; and Arya Dipajaya Nugraha, S.T., M.T. for the regular class in Room 9021. The event commenced with registration, distribution of Student ID Cards (KTM), screenings of the FTMD profile video, and a Safety Induction video to introduce the safety culture within the faculty.
The new students were then directly welcomed by the Dean of FTMD ITB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Hermawan Judawisastra, M.Eng., who introduced the faculty leadership, department heads, and FTMD’s academic environment to prepare students for the Common First Year (TPB) program. On this occasion, the Dean extended his welcome to all incoming students and urged them to make the most of their studies to continuously learn, innovate, and develop their personal potential.
The series of events continued with a presentation on FTMD’s academic system by the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr. Eng. Pandji Prawisudha, S.T., M.T. The presentation covered an overview of the curriculum, faculty academic regulations, available student program schemes, academic services, and an introduction to academic advisors who guide students throughout their studies.
Subsequently, Dr.-Ing. Ir. Javensius Sembiring, S.T., M.T., alongside Abdul Hakim Masyhur, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., moderated a Q&A session, providing new students the opportunity to inquire about academic life and various programs at FTMD. The event then proceeded with a presentation on FTMD’s facilities and infrastructure by Dr. Eng. Ir. Ferryanto, S.T., M.T., before concluding with a joint photo session with all new students.
This orientation event serves as the first step for the 454 new FTMD students to familiarize themselves with the faculty’s academic environment during the Common First Year (TPB). Through this introduction to the academic system, facilities, and learning culture at FTMD, students are expected to adequately prepare themselves before selecting their specific study programs through ITB’s department allocation process.
Supported by a collaborative learning environment and the FTMD academic community, students are expected to develop their potential, adapt to campus life, and grow into excellent, innovative individuals ready to contribute to the advancement of science, technology, and society.
