Bandung – The Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FTMD) at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) conducted an academic visit to the TRIGA 2000 Nuclear Reactor facility owned by the Nuclear Reactor Technology Research Center (PRTRN) of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) in Bandung on Thursday (18/6/2026). This activity is part of FTMD’s efforts to enrich student learning experiences while strengthening research collaboration opportunities in the field of nuclear technology.

The visit was attended by a number of FTMD ITB lecturers, namely Prof. Ir. Ari Darmawan Pasek, Ph.D., Prof. Ir. Tubagus Ahmad Fauzi Soelaiman, MSME., Ph.D., Dr. Eng. Ir. Yuli Setyo Indartono, S.T., M.T., Jooned Hendrarsakti, Ph.D., Dr. Eng. Ir. Firman Bagja Juangsa, S.T., M.Eng., Dr. Eng. Gea Fardias Mu’min, S.T., M.T., Ilman Nuran Zaini, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., and Dr. Eng. Achmad Rofi Irsyad, S.T., M.Eng. The activity also involved students enrolled in the MS4025 Thermal Power Generation course.

Through this visit, students had the opportunity to observe the research nuclear reactor facility firsthand and learn about its working principles, operating systems, and various applications of nuclear technology. This experience complements the material learned in class, particularly regarding power generation and nuclear reactor technology.

This activity serves as a follow-up to a previous visit made by the PRTRN BRIN team to FTMD ITB. That meeting opened up discussions on various potential collaborations between the two institutions, especially in the fields of education, research, and the development of future energy technologies.

In addition to providing practical insights to students, this visit also served as momentum to strengthen ties between FTMD ITB and PRTRN BRIN. During the various discussion sessions held, both parties deliberated on synergy opportunities that could be developed to support human resource capacity building and research in the field of nuclear technology.

One of the key agendas receiving attention was the plan to draft a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) between FTMD ITB and PRTRN BRIN. This cooperation is expected to serve as a foundation for developing academic activities, joint research, knowledge exchange, and the utilization of research facilities relevant to the advancement of nuclear technology in Indonesia.

Through this activity, FTMD ITB reaffirms its commitment to delivering learning experiences integrated with the worlds of research and industry, while expanding strategic collaborative networks to support the development of sustainable and globally competitive energy technologies.
