FTMD ITB Strengthens Academic Network and Promotes Doctoral Program through Visits to Various Institutions
Bandung – The Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FTMD) at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) conducted a series of visits to various universities, polytechnics, and research institutions throughout June 2026. This initiative aimed to introduce the FTMD ITB Doctoral Program (PhD), which encompasses the Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, and Aerospace Engineering Study Programs, while exploring opportunities for cooperation in academia, research, and human resource development.
The series of visits commenced at the Indonesian Aviation Polytechnic (Politeknik Penerbangan Indonesia (PPI)) Curug on Thursday (4/6/2026). The FTMD ITB delegation, consisting of Dr. Arie Wibowo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., Dr. Ir. Yazdi Ibrahim Jenie, S.T., M.T., and Dr. Annisa Jusuf, S.T., M.T., was received by the Director of PPI Curug, Capt. Megi H. Helmiadi. In addition to introducing the FTMD ITB Doctoral Program, the meeting also discussed potential academic and research collaboration relevant to the aviation and aerospace fields.
On Monday (8/6/2026), FTMD ITB visited the Bandung State Polytechnic (Politeknik Negeri Bandung (POLBAN)). The delegation, consisting of Dr. Arie Wibowo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D. and Dr. Ir. Yazdi Ibrahim Jenie, S.T., M.T., was welcomed by the Head of the POLBAN Mechanical Engineering Department, Adri Maldi Subardjah, B.Eng. (Hons), M.Sc. The discussion focused on further study opportunities for POLBAN lecturers and educators, as well as the potential for developing academic and research cooperation between the two institutions.
On the same day, FTMD ITB also visited the Bandung Manufacturing Polytechnic (Politeknik Negeri Manufaktur Bandung (POLMAN)). The visit, attended by Dr. Arie Wibowo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D. and Prof. Ir. Rachman Setiawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., was received by the Director of POLMAN, Darma Firmansyah Undayat, S.ST., M.T. The meeting discussed human resource development opportunities through doctoral education as well as research collaboration related to the manufacturing and production technology sectors.
Subsequently, on Tuesday (9/6/2026), FTMD ITB paid a visit to the Politeknik STTT Bandung. The FTMD ITB delegation, consisting of Dr. Arie Wibowo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D. and Dr. rer. nat. Mardiyati, S.Si., M.T., was received by the Director of Politeknik STTT Bandung, R. Arief Dewanto, S.T., M.M. Beyond promoting the FTMD ITB Doctoral Program, both parties also discussed opportunities for academic and research collaboration to support the development of textile technology and industry in Indonesia.
On Wednesday (10/6/2026), FTMD ITB conducted a visit to the National Research and Innovation Agency (Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN)). The delegation, consisting of Dr. Arie Wibowo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D. and Dr. Eng. Ir. Pandji Prawisudha, S.T., M.T., was received by Prof. Edy Giring Rachman Putra as the Deputy for Science and Technology Human Resources of BRIN, Dr. Ajeng Arum Sari as the Director of Talent Management, and Bakhtiardi Putra Siswinanda as the Head of the Talent Management 3 Team.
During the meeting, both parties discussed the development of the Doctoral by Research (DbR) scheme between BRIN and ITB, specifically within FTMD ITB. Discussions were also held to understand BRIN’s needs and expectations regarding doctoral education for its researchers, in order to establish a more relevant advanced study scheme that supports the strengthening of national research capacity.
On the same day, FTMD ITB also visited the Faculty of Industrial Technology at Universitas Trisakti. The FTMD delegation, consisting of Dr. Arie Wibowo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D. and Dr. Eng. Ir. Pandji Prawisudha, S.T., M.T., was received by the Dean of the Faculty of Industrial Technology at Universitas Trisakti, Prof. Dr. Ir. Rianti Dewi Sulamet-Ariobimo, S.T., M.Eng., I.P.U. In addition to promoting the FTMD ITB Doctoral Program, both institutions discussed opportunities for academic cooperation and the development of collaborative research in the future.
The series of visits concluded with a visit to the Batam State Polytechnic (Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam)) on Friday (12/6/2026). The FTMD ITB delegation was led directly by the Dean of FTMD ITB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Hermawan Judawisastra, M.Eng., accompanied by Dr. Arie Wibowo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., Dr. Annisa Jusuf, S.T., M.T., Dr. Ir. Yazdi Ibrahim Jenie, S.T., M.T., and Febri Baskoro, S.Pd., M.Sc., Ph.D.
The delegation was received by the Vice Director I for Academic Affairs of Polibatam, Ahmad Riyad Firdaus, S.Si., M.T., Ph.D. Beyond discussing doctoral study opportunities and potential academic and research cooperation, the visit also featured a site tour of Polibatam’s flagship facilities, including laboratories, the Chip Design Center, the Schneider Innovation Corner, and the Aircraft Maintenance Hangar.
Through this series of visits, FTMD ITB continues to reinforce its commitment to supporting the development of excellent human resources through doctoral education, while expanding its collaborative network with various educational and research institutions in Indonesia. It is hoped that the various discussions held will serve as an initial step toward the creation of sustainable cooperation in academia, research, and innovation, ultimately benefiting the advancement of national and international science and technology.
