FTMD ITB Convenes Strategic Dialogue with Institute of Science Tokyo and Ricoh Co., Ltd
Bandung, Wednesday, June 10, 2026 – The Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FTMD) at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) welcomed a delegation from the Institute of Science Tokyo and Ricoh Co., Ltd. at the FTMD 2nd Floor Seminar Room. This visit marks a significant momentum to strengthen international networks and explore various collaborative opportunities in education, research, and technological development.
The attending delegation from the Institute of Science Tokyo and Ricoh Co., Ltd. consisted of Yasufumi Yamada, Director of R&D at Ricoh Co., Ltd.; Prof. Kazuyoshi Fushinobu from the Institute of Science Tokyo; and Assoc. Prof. Koichi Kato, representing both the Institute of Science Tokyo and Ricoh Co., Ltd.
Meanwhile, FTMD ITB was represented by the Dean of FTMD, Prof. Dr. Ir. Hermawan Judawisastra, M.Eng., along with several FTMD lecturers and researchers, namely Prof. Dr. Ir. Prohadi Setyo Darmanto; Prof. Ir. Ari Darmawan Pasek, Ph.D.; Prof. Ir. Rachman Setiawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D.; Dr. Eng. Firman Bagja Juangsa, S.T., M.Eng.; Dr. Eng. Gea Fardias Mu’min, S.T., M.T.; Ir. Vani Virdyawan, S.T., M.T., Ph.D.; Ir. Pramudita Satria Palar, S.T., M.T., Ph.D.; Dr. Eng. Achmad Rofi Irsyad, S.T., M.Eng.; and Dr. Eng. Evan Philander, S.T., M.T.
The meeting commenced with a discussion on the profiles and activities of each institution, followed by a deliberation on various cooperation opportunities that could be developed in the future. One of the main topics discussed was the potential for university-industry collaboration to support technological developments that have a tangible impact on society and the industrial sector.
During the discussion, Ricoh Co., Ltd. expressed interest in exploring joint research and development opportunities with FTMD ITB. As a global technology company with extensive experience in innovation and product development, Ricoh recognizes a great potential to build synergies with FTMD researchers across various engineering fields.
In addition to industrial cooperation, the meeting also opened avenues for academic collaboration between FTMD ITB and the Institute of Science Tokyo. Both institutions discussed the possibility of developing student and faculty exchange programs, research collaborations, and various academic activities that could strengthen international networks and enhance the quality of education and research at both institutions.
As part of the visit, the delegation toured several laboratories within FTMD ITB. The laboratory tour provided an opportunity for both parties to gain a closer insight into the research facilities, academic competencies, and various ongoing research projects developed by FTMD faculty and researchers.
Through technical discussions held during the laboratory tour, various potentials for research synergy were identified in the fields of fluids, thermal, materials, design, and manufacturing. These shared research interests open up opportunities for the development of joint projects oriented toward technological innovation and solving future industrial challenges.
This visit serves not only as a means to strengthen ties between FTMD ITB, the Institute of Science Tokyo, and Ricoh Co., Ltd., but also as an initial step toward building a more strategic and sustainable collaboration. By combining academic strength, research, and industrial experience, the partnership is expected to generate innovations that benefit scientific advancement, technology, and global industrial needs.
Through this event, FTMD ITB reaffirms its commitment to expanding international collaboration, strengthening the research ecosystem, and fostering innovations relevant to technological advancements and future societal needs.
