Bandung, Wednesday, November 19, 2025 — FTMD ITB advanced educational partnership talks with Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU), China, in a focused meeting aimed at strengthening international academic cooperation, particularly at the master’s and doctoral levels.

The SWJTU delegation was led by Li Hai, Vice Dean of the SWJTU School of International Education. FTMD ITB’s leadership welcomed the group, including Dean Prof. Dr. Ir. Hermawan Judawisastra; Vice Dean for Human Resources, Rianto Adhy Sasongko, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D.; and Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr. Eng. Pandji Prawisudha, S.T., M.T. ITB Partnership Team members Prananda Luffiansyah Malasan, S.Ds., M.Ds., Ph.D., and Alice Diniarti, S.S., M.I.Kom. were also present.

The meeting covered a collaborative master’s degree program using the 1+1 scheme. This allows students to study at both ITB and SWJTU and earn a dual degree taught in English.

In addition to academic development, the program strengthens ITB students’ Mandarin skills. This aligns with the Chinese Ministry of Education policy that requires international students to take a Mandarin language program in China. ITB students will gain academic expertise, an international degree, and valuable language abilities for global opportunities. The program is planned to start before June 2026.

The meeting also examined doctoral collaboration for deeper faculty and student research engagement. Discussions specified that the proposed 2+2 doctoral scheme would have candidates spend two years at SWJTU and two years at ITB. Topics included study duration, course selection, and access to academic information via websites and promoter profiles. SWJTU expressed a strong interest in partnering with ITB’s Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FTMD) through this arrangement. This would support joint research and expand doctoral candidates’ academic networks.

This meeting is expected to build a solid foundation for ongoing collaboration between FTMD, ITB, and SWJTU. It also opens opportunities for student exchanges, improves foreign-language skills, and encourages joint research.
