FTMD ITB and BRIN Establish Collaboration for the Development of Nuclear Reactor Technology and Microturbine-Based Power Conversion Systems
Bandung – The Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FTMD) at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) has officially established a collaboration with the Nuclear Reactor Technology Research Center (Pusat Riset Teknologi Reaktor Nuklir (PRTRN)), Nuclear Energy Research Organization, National Research and Innovation Agency Agency (Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN)), through the signing of a Cooperation Agreement (Perjanjian Kerja Sama (PKS)) on Thursday, June 25, 2026.
This collaboration focuses on the development of nuclear reactor thermal-hydraulic models and microturbine-based power conversion systems as part of efforts to support the development of nuclear reactor technology in Indonesia.
The agreement was signed by the Head of BRIN’s Nuclear Reactor Technology Research Center, Prof. Dr. Eng. Topan Setiadipura, S.Si., M.Si., alongside the Dean of FTMD ITB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Hermawan Judawisastra, M.Eng. Also present at the event were representatives from FTMD, including Dr. Eng. Ir. Pandji Prawisudha, S.T., M.T. as the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of FTMD ITB; Dr. Eng. Ir. Firman Bagja Juangsa, S.T., M.Eng. as the Head of RIEM2TB; and Dr. Eng. Gea Fardias Mu’min, S.T., M.T. as the Partnership Coordinator.
This partnership marks a strategic step in strengthening the synergy between higher education institutions and national research agencies to develop safe, efficient, and sustainable nuclear reactor technology.
The primary focus of the collaboration includes the development of nuclear reactor thermal-hydraulic models, cooling system analysis, and the design of microturbine-based power conversion systems that hold the potential to enhance the energy utilization efficiency of nuclear reactors.
As an academic partner, FTMD ITB plays a role in developing thermal-hydraulic analysis methodologies and microturbine-based power conversion systems, formulating mathematical and numerical models, conducting simulations, and interpreting study results.
Furthermore, FTMD’s multidisciplinary expertise in the fields of thermal engineering, energy conversion, fluids, and systems engineering is expected to contribute significantly to the development of national nuclear energy technology.
The collaboration between FTMD ITB and BRIN is expected to bolster national research capacity while supporting the development of innovative, safe, and sustainable nuclear energy technology for Indonesia.
