Jakarta, FTMD ITB – The Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FTMD) at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), alongside the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia and PT Bundamedik Tbk (BMHS), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of medical robotics at RSU Bunda Jakarta on Monday (July 27, 2026).
This signing marks a strategic step in strengthening synergies among the government, higher education institutions, and healthcare providers to support education, research, innovation, and human resource capacity building in health technology.
The event was attended by the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, Budi Gunadi Sadikin; Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, Benjamin Paulus Octavianus; Director General of Advanced Health Services at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, Azhar Jaya; leadership and members of BMHS, including President Commissioner of PT Bundamedik Tbk, Dr. dr. Ivan Rizal Sini, GDRM., MMIS., MBA., FRANZCOG., SpOG., and President Director of PT Bundamedik Tbk, Dr. Agus Heru Darjono; as well as ITB Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta Dirgantara; ITB Vice Rector for Research and Innovation, Prof. Ir. Lavi Rizki Zuhal, Ph.D.; Dean of FTMD ITB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Hermawan Judawisastra, M.Eng.; ITB Partnership Director, Dr. Ir. Endra Gunawan, S.T., M.Sc.; and Ir. Vani Virdyawan, S.T., M.T., Ph.D.
Through this partnership, FTMD ITB will collaborate with BMHS and the Ministry of Health to build a national medical robotics ecosystem through education, research, healthcare technology innovation, and medical personnel competency enhancement. This collaboration is expected to accelerate the adoption of robotic technology in healthcare services while fostering innovations originating from higher education institutions in Indonesia.
As part of the partnership implementation, BMHS donated a robotic surgical system to FTMD ITB. This facility will be utilized for education, research, and medical technology innovation, thereby supporting learning processes alongside medical robotics research within ITB.
On this occasion, Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin noted that robotic technology is a primary focus of national health transformation, along with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and biotechnology. He emphasized that collaboration among the government, educational institutions, and healthcare providers is a critical factor in accelerating health technology development in Indonesia.
Following the MoU signing ceremony, participants toured the facilities at RSU Bunda Jakarta to observe the live implementation of robotic surgery technology in practice. The tour provided insights into various medical robotic systems used to support modern surgical procedures, while serving as an opportunity to discuss the utilization of robotic technology in healthcare and its development potential through collaboration between academia, government, and industry.
Through this agreement and collaboration, FTMD ITB reaffirms its commitment to engineering-based technologies that generate tangible societal impacts. The synergy with the Ministry of Health and BMHS is expected to lay the foundation for national medical robotics innovations while supporting the transformation of Indonesian healthcare services through education, research, and cross-sector collaboration.
