The da Vinci Si Robotic Surgical System is a robotic-assisted surgery technology that enables surgeons to control robotic instruments via a console backed by 3D visualization. The system is designed to facilitate minimally invasive surgical procedures using instruments featuring high flexibility and precision.
For FTMD ITB, this donation expands its physical facilities while establishing a dynamic platform for education, research, and technological development in medical robotics. The equipment can be studied from an engineering perspective, spanning mechanisms and kinematics to control systems, teleoperation, instrumentation, and human-robot interaction.
Its implementation will be driven by the FTMD ITB Robotics Team, which possesses extensive experience in robotics and soft robotics development for healthcare applications. Key team members include Prof. Ir. Andi Isra Mahyuddin, Ph.D.; Ir. Indrawanto, M.Eng., Ph.D.; Dr. Eng. Ferryanto, S.T., M.T.; Ir. Vani Virdyawan, S.T., M.T., Ph.D.; and Dr. Budi Heryadi, S.T., M.T.
This expertise serves as a vital foundation for leveraging the da Vinci Si system to bridge clinical demands with engineering solutions. The deployment of this equipment unlocks further research opportunities in medical robotics, including mechanisms, motion control, teleoperation, simulation, and supporting technologies for medical procedures.
Following the symbolic handover ceremony and a group photo session, the delegation visited the Production Engineering Laboratory at FTMD ITB to view the da Vinci Si Robotic Surgical System firsthand. During the tour, the FTMD team introduced the device and outlined opportunities for its integration into educational and research activities.
The event proceeded with a discussion session exploring practical applications and collaborative development opportunities in medical robotics, concluding with a final photo session.
The donation of the da Vinci Si Robotic Surgical System marks a strategic step toward strengthening Indonesia’s health technology research ecosystem. The presence of this equipment at FTMD ITB is expected to serve as a catalyst for medical robotics research and innovation, while reinforcing cross-sector collaboration among academia, government, industry, and healthcare professionals toward national health technology self-reliance.
