Bandung – The Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FMAE/FTMD) of the Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) signed a cooperation agreement with the Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU), specifically the Air Force Material Maintenance Command (Koharmatau), on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, in the 2nd-floor Seminar Room of the FTMD ITB Ganesha Building.

Koharmatau Commander Suryanto attended the signing, joined by Deputy Commander Andy Pambudi and Expert Staff Group Head Arif Djoko. Four additional Koharmatau representatives were present, bringing the total delegation to seven.

The event was attended by the Dean of FTMD ITB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Hermawan Judawisastra, M.Eng. Also, present was Dr. Eng. Ir. Firman Bagja Juangsa, S.T., M.Eng., who is Head of the Institute for Research and Innovation in Energy and Materials for Sustainable Transportation ITB (RIEM2TB). Prof. Dr. Ir. Ichsan Setya Putra from the Solid Mechanics and Lightweight Structures Research Group also attended.

This event marks the first step toward strengthening collaboration in the aerospace sector and supporting national development, particularly in science, technology, and human resources. This collaboration is an initiative of both parties to strengthen synergy between higher education institutions and the defense institutions of the Republic of Indonesia.

Through this collaboration, FTMD ITB and Koharmatau are expected to support each other in technology development, competency enhancement, and the utilization of aerospace engineering expertise. The partnership offers benefits such as joint research projects, knowledge sharing, technical workshops, and workforce development programs tailored to advancing air defense systems. Collaboration between academia and defense institutions is crucial for driving research and innovation that addresses the needs of air defense systems.

By signing this collaboration, academic institutions take a strategic step in advancing aerospace technology. Their role strengthens, and their contributions to national defense grow accordingly.
