Bandung – In commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) falling on December 3, 2023, Rumah Amal Salman, as a social institution, is organizing an event involving providing assistive devices for people with disabilities. This is an inclusive activity titled “Disabilities at Work and Empowered: Embracing Disability.”

Laznas Rumah Amal Salman assisted in the form of physical assistance tools for people with disabilities. The assistance is in the form of prosthetic technology and physical tools made by the Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering ( FMAE ), Karla Bionics, and Biotechnics. They provide assistive devices for people with disabilities, blindness, and cerebral palsy.

From this collaboration, 25 people with disabilities, consisting of students and people in need, were selected. Specifically, there will be ten multi-axis knee prostheses, ten canes for the visually impaired, three wheelchairs, and two adaptive wheelchairs.

Abdul Aziz, Rumah Amal’s program manager, hoped that this distribution would not only help people with disabilities in their daily activities but also enable them to work and be empowered. This hope is based on the theme of the activity, “Disabilitas Berkarya dan Berdaya.”

“I hope these assistive devices will be the beginning of making it easier for people with disabilities to blend in with the rest of society, get income and decent work,” Abdul Aziz said.

Apart from the distribution of disability equipment, several other activities were also carried out, such as socializing soft skills in the form of knowledge and skills and providing life motivation. This program is expected to increase the independence of people with disabilities by optimizing prosthetic technology that is not only for daily activity needs.
