Mechanical Engineering ITB Alumni Shares Professional Experience in Data Center Industry
Bandung – Several alumni from the Mechanical Engineering department ITB attended the M-Career Talk event organized by the Mechanical Engineering Student Association (HMM ITB) on Friday (20/01/23). Alumni; Yana Haikal (M89), Chandra Irawan (M00), and M. Farid Naufal (M07) served as speakers in this event to provide insights on careers in the Data Centre industry. The event was held offline in the Seminar Room, Labtek II, and was attended by students from the 2019, 2020, and 2021 class of the Mechanical Engineering program.
The event was also warmly welcomed by the Dean of the FTMD, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta Dirgantara. Before the event started, he invited the alumni to take a campus tour around the FTMD campus and reminisce about their time as students.
The event was facilitated by M. Faris Naufal A (alumnus of Mechanical Engineering 2007), who is currently pursuing a career as a Technical Leader Cooling System at Schneider Electric.
The first presentation was delivered by Yana Haikal (M89), a Business Vice President, Secure Power Division, Energy Management Business at PT. Schneider Electric IT Indonesia. On his presentation, he explained about the company profile following the introduction on Data Centre industry. He emphasized that the Data Centre industry provides promising career prospects, considering the increasing demand for data centers in the current era of digital transformation. Furthermore, he also highlighted the opportunity to join Schneider Electric through their program called the Schneider Electric Graduate Program.
Not only did the student gain insights into Data Centres from one company, but Chandra Irawan, an alumni of Mechanical Engineering from ITB in 2000 who is currently working as the Country Manager at Pure Data Centres (Indonesia), also provided a deeper understanding. He delved into topics such as cloud computing, distributed zones of cloud computing, the five main components of a data centre, and more. Through his presentation, the students gained an understanding of the career scope for Mechanical Engineering graduates in the Data Centre industry. Lastly, he discussed career progression within his company to provide a glimpse into potential career paths for the students.
“Every success starts with the decision to try,” Chandra Irawan advised to the students.
The event concluded with a question-and-answer session between the students and the alumni, followed by a group photo. The event aimed to provide inspiration to the students in shaping their careers after completing their studies.
