On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, the Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FTMD) at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) received a visit from Volar Air Mobility. This visit was led by Volar Air Mobility Co-Founder, Weng Siang Koh, and was warmly welcomed by several key figures from FTMD ITB, including Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta, Prof. Dr. Ir. Hari Muhammad, Prof. Lavi Rizki Zuhal Ph.D, Dr. Taufiq Mulyanto, and Mrs. Lia Amelia Tresna Wulan Asri, Ph.D.

Volar Air Mobility Limited (“Volar”) is a Hong Kong-based eco-friendly air mobility technology company founded in 2020 with a vision to pioneer Green Aviation.

FTMD ITB’s track record in various aerospace technology development projects in Indonesia, such as the development of the CN235, CN295, NC212, N2130, N219, and N219 Amphibious aircraft, provides a strong foundation for future collaboration with Volar Air Mobility. During the meeting, both parties discussed various topics related to sustainable green aviation.

The meeting also discussed several potential research and development collaborations. In the short term, these include the development of amphibious floats for the RX4E aircraft and the development of flight simulator software for the RX4E aircraft. This cooperation is met with optimism considering FTMD ITB’s experience in developing the N219 aircraft. The RX4E aircraft is an air taxi service developed by Volar that utilizes electric-powered multi-passenger aircraft.

Another collaboration explored is developing a training framework for developing modular manufacturing templates for Electric Aircraft and the joint development of 9-11-seat electric/hydrogen aircraft with various universities.

This discussion aims to open up opportunities for collaboration in the development of more environmentally friendly aviation technology while strengthening the commitment of FTMD ITB and Volar Air Mobility in supporting the sustainability of the aviation industry.
